High-Pressure Laminate Guitars 

The Little Martins use High-Pressure Laminate (HPL). The purity from these guitars is not the same as from a wood-based guitar, but HPL is the right choice for this guitar. They allow the guitars' cost to be lower. Martin only manufactures in America and Mexico. Cost of labor is much higher in these countries than overseas. Martin using HPL allows them to bring the prices to an affordable range.  

The HPL guitars are also great for taking to different climates. Normal wood changes with the temperature. HPL doesn’t. This means you can take it to the Amazon or to the Arctic and still have the same playability. (Playing a guitar in the arctic may not be safe.)

Why They Work 

The Little Martin Guitars don’t sound like cheap mini guitars. Their tone feels like a full-sized guitar. Oftentimes smaller guitars sound distorted. If you play them too hard the tone changes. The Little Martins don’t have this issue. 

The Little Martins are also fantastic guitars for kids. The High-Pressure Laminate bodies make them durable. They are the right size for a kid, and they can be set up to play very well.

The LX1 Little Martin does use a spruce top. If you want a more authentic sound, the LX1's wood top will achieve it. The wood allows the sound to breathe while maintaining the durability of HPL back and sides.

The LX2 models use complete HPL on the entire guitar. This creates durability on an instrument that is great for kids.

Who Shouldn’t Buy These 

If you’re looking for authentic guitar tone that is praised by vintage guitar players, this isn’t for you. The HPL body sounds awesome, but it isn’t authentic. The quality is not as good as wood.  

If you are a large person, this guitar might feel tiny in your hands. It can lead to awkward arm placement and bad technique.

If you wanna plug in on stages, this guitar does not have a built-in pickup system. You would need to mic it. Nothing wrong with miking guitars, but there are easier solutions in different guitars. 

If you are looking to play rockin’ riffs like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin or any other rockbands. You wanna get an electric.
